2pm! June 27th! ABC! Estados Unidos vs. Ghana for a chance to go to the FIFA World Cup Quarter Finals!

GO USA! GO USA! GO USA!

Good luck USA, and even if you lose, thank you so much for that win over Algeria! I will never forget where I was with my coworkers, in front of my computer, streaming live from http://atdhe.net/ and the reaction we all had watching it! When they scored, I jumped about 10 feet in the air right on to my coworker, Julio, who was delirious in excitement! It was one of the best celebrations I've ever had, and reminded me much of when the NY Giants won the Superbowl. Nothing will ever match THAT, but this was so exhilarating and my heart was beating so fast for hours after the victory!

It was sports at it's VERY BEST, as well as ultimate pride in your country! Very proud of of our team, and I hope I captured even a little bit of that excitement in my drawing of the winning goal at 91 minutes this past Wednesday!

I'm very nervous about the game, I want us to win so badly, yet very EXCITED to just watch them play and root them on! So, Let's do THIS, USA!

The ALL NEW Wonder Woman!

Wonder Woman © William Moulton Marston
Art by Jim Lee

Now that it's FINALLY been made public, I can share with you my take on the ALL NEW Wonder Woman costume designed by Jim Lee! I actually had this all ready to be posted last week, but realized Wonder Woman #600 doesn't come out until tomorrow, so I had to wait.

Read all about the BIG news here:

http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2010/06/29/unveiling-wonder-woman%E2%80%99s-new-costume-direction/

I'm a complete sucker for new costumes or characters hidden behind masks, and there's a mystery as to who it is. I love when a character gets an "All New, All Different" direction. I think it comes from my love of character design and costume/ character creation. I love art of books that have tons of drawings of different costumes and looks. So I get REALLY excited when an establish character gets a make over. I know a lot of the times it is pure gimmick to get more readers or just doing it to "do it" when no real story element is involved. When it's done right, it is so much better, but even still, I always fall for the revamped looks. I loved it when Snake-Eyes changed from his commando outfit to his visor look. I loved it when Tim Drake took over as Robin, and wore pants. I LOVED it when Spoiler took over as Robin as a girl. I love it when Spider-Man changes his costume, despite all the TERRIBLE designs he's gone through. There have been so many throughout the years, and even if the costume is horrible, I always wind up at least liking the idea behind it, if only because I feel superheroes should always have different outfits to wear.

Much like Star Wars, why can't superheroes change outfits occasionally? Much like Luke had his Hoth gear, and X-Wing flight suit, and his black Jedi wear. I loved that there was slave Leia, and Leia as Bousch. I'm even a fan of when Batman has to use a different outfit to say, so deep sea diving, lol. Most of Batman's outfits like that were for terrible different toys to sell as many as they could, but some of them just made sense. If Batman needs to jump out of a plane, much like Jim Lee had him do in Hush, he wears the appropriate suit. I don't know WHY superheroes feel that they need to wear ONE and only one outfit for a long, LONG time. If Spider-Man wants to go out in his black suit, why must it be such a BIG deal in comics. Why does it always have to be an EVENT?! If Superman wants to wear his black suit (which I LOVED), he should. Same with Wonder Woman. She has her warrior armor, and her classic spandex. If she is going to war, she should wear the appropriate outfit. Makes sense doesn't it?

My point is, I LOVE new costumes, and here is the DEBUT of Wonder Woman's NEW costume. I like mostly everything about it, except for maybe the jacket, but it could grow on me. I love her corset, and I like her pants, but the jacket may just be too old school for me. I drew it because even though with new costumes there are aspects that I may not like, I have to try my hand at it anyway to see if I can make it cool. I like my version a lot, and therefore, I think Jim Lee created a really cool ALTERNATE costume that can work really well for the character.

My point is though, that's what it should be; an alternate outfit. For example, if she wants to wear her warrior outfit for a story, she should just do it. If she wants to wear her classic outfit, then she should. When she wants to be more casual, she should wear this outfit. To be honest, I think it makes her TOO covered up actually. She is supposed be a goddess, and super sexy. She is too covered up right now. In an age with Lady Gaga and Miley Cirus, she is WAY out of fashion. I get that she shouldn't be wearing Granny Panties anymore, and I like how the pants solves that issue, but she should not have a jacket covering up her shoulders, which is what REALLY makes a woman a sexy, strong, powerful woman. The jacket makes her look a little too masculine. We'll see though. It looks awesome drawn by Jim, but can other artists match it?

I can't wait until fans see the new costume, and see what they think. Should be interesting. And I can't WAIT until the NEXT character to be "All New, All Different; the New ________!"

Until next time,

Rocketeer Reboot!?

The Rocketeer © Dave Stevens

Here is my final drawing of the Rocketeer series I did. I like this one a lot actually. I think because it is framed nicely on the page, and really has a nice sort of illustrated quality to it. Drawing this one, really gave me a brilliant idea too. It made we think how COOL it would be to do a reboot of the character. I wouldn't mind someone doing a new series taking place as it did in the noir/ war story that it was in the 4o's, just to get new comics starting this amazing character, but I'm talking about a NEW series completely, placing the character in MODERN DAY! I really think this seems like a good idea.

Just imagine a Rocketeer book where it takes place in modern day, and if it was written by someone like James Robinson! James wrote my all time favorite comic book series in Starman, so just imagine him writing a Rocketeer book. Much like Starman it would set up a new character in the role, and be a series filled with the same story telling ability James is a master of. He can be the latest in a long line of Rocketeers harking back to the war, and like the Lightning Staff Jack Knight was given, the Rocket Pack could be handed down. Or a new character takes up the mantle after the pack was found, or handed down to him from his grandfather or something. Maybe it's like Batman Beyond where this character stumbles upon it and takes up the reigns and learns the history of it as the story progresses and the character gets caught up in a string of lies and deceit, restarting the struggle of villains getting their hands on the technology! It probably would work best with like a fictional Nazi-like regime, or GI Joe's Cobra, ie a fraction of say, China or North Korea. God, I should just write this myself... lol! Hmmmmmmm...

James is PERFECT for this book. In Starman, James was AMAZING at crafting a long, fleshed out tale. He was the master at foreshadowing. What he wrote in issue six reverberated in issue 55! He was able to give us clues and hints as he went along, and NOTHING was throw away. He made everything MATTER. He said, for example that Jack would go into space. We thought whatever at the time, but when he finally had to go into space, like 50 issues later, it was brilliant. And it wasn't like, "oh, I said Jack has to go to outer space, so let's have him go." No, it was more because the story's next step was outer space, the story dictated the move, and it was not FORCED at all. The way he tied it together was so awesome! Also, the way he was able to take 3-4 different era's and make them all mater and tie into each other, created this "false" history for the character who was really a throw away character before the series. He made us CARE about Ted Knight, and other characters who were Starmen. And don't get me started on the AMAZING character of the Shade! The way the Shade played into the weaving of the story, was nothing shirt of genius!

But wouldn't it be so great to see and read a series in the vain of the masterful Starman, where James was able to tie in history and legacies, and mystery around a new character, but an old legacy? James was also a master at time and setting, and I can see it now; the Rocketeer within a wondrous city (real or imaginary) like Opal City. The possibilities are endless if he could capture even an ounce of that magic again!

James is the BEST writer when it comes to tying multiple stories together throughout the length of a series and he would do wonders with this book! I think in making the Rocketeer a legendary character once again by building an EPIC story such as Starman, that has a beginning, middle and end, James Robinson would be the perfect fit here. And drawn by ME, of coarse! LOL

If you haven't read Starman, go out and buy the Hard Covers in stores now, and read them immediately! Trust me when I say that is one of, if not the GREATEST comic series of all time! And then come back and imagine what WONDERS he could do with a character like the Rocketeer if he did it in that vain.

Hope you like this pin-up!

Until next time,

CjB

I love working with my good friend, and coworker Steve Wands. He adds so much life and energy to my pieces, when he inks over me. I'm really lucky to have someone who I share so much artist creativity with, who loves my art and vice-versa. I'm very fortunate that he likes to work over me, and I over him, and I get SUPER excited to share our collaborations with everyone.

Here he added his AMAZING inks to my piece for The Comet who was redesigned by fan favorite, Duncan Rouleau, as seen above!

Great work Steve!

Prince of Persia Movie RULES!

Prince of Persia - 2010 © Ubisoft
By Corey Breen
Pencil

Please, please, please do yourself a favor and RUN to go see the Prince of Persia movie! If you like fun filled, action packed, old school adventure movies, then you gotta support this movie. I know it did just ok, but it should be doing BETTER! I want it to do at least good enough to make a sequel, because it really deserves it. Much like the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, much like the Mummy movies in a lesser extent, and a lot like the Indiana Jones movies, this movie is really deserving of more attention and praise. People need to STOP being so critical of things to the point where they actually miss out on the really good ones.

With a beautiful soundtrack, really good cinematography, good acting, wonderful thrills and action sequences, great pace, heartfelt, funny movie, I enjoyed every SECOND of this movie. Beautiful women abound, great sets and a really engaging plot that kept me wanting it to not end. It's all about the great aspects of why time travel can be such a cool topic when done right, and not muddled by huge gaping holes and conundrums. Not overly complex, the story was what I want to see more movies be. Not every movie has to be the Dark Knight, or as deep and meaningful a film. Sometimes I just want my action/ adventure movies to be FUN! I want to sit back, enjoy the movies, and where it takes me to another time, place, etc. I was definitely whisked away with this movie, and much like where I thought Pirates and Avatar succeeded, it was all about making a exciting adventure film of old.

So do yourself a favor and support this movie and movies like it. I personally LOVE movies like this one, and Pirates, and the yes, the Mummy movies, and Indiana Jones! And even the recent Losers movie! We need these kinda movies; I NEED these kinda movies. The fact that it was panned, was complete BullSH!T, and I think completely ignorant. If you are like me, I think you will really like this flick, and even if there NEVER is a sequel, I at least have this film to watch OVER and OVER again, so I am happy.

Good work to everyone who made this film, I LOVED it! Hope people finally come around to my side. I think it kicked Iron Man 2's A$$ by the way, but it's stupid to even compare. Go out and see it for yourself, and let me know what YOU think!

I hope you at least dig my drawing of Dastan!

Until next time,

Corey Breen

PS- Lots of Rocketeer drawings are coming up next couple of posts!
